Good bye Yuwie

Well everyone, it looks like the time has come for me to say goodbye to Yuwie.

I've been putting it off for quite some time now because I've really invested a lot of time and energy here, and I'm going to miss the few real friends I've made.  But, Yuwie's reputation around the web has gotten to be such that I really don't care to be affiliated with them anymore, and with all the back biting among members, and Yuwie's punitive nature among other things, it's just gotten to be not worth the effort to maintain a page here.

Aside from that, the last couple of times I logged in my antivirus flagged several Yuwie pages as having malicious content.  I have already had to remove trojans after more than one Yuwie session and I  just don't need the grief.

Here is my email addy for my friends who want to keep up with me when I find a new home.  getpaid2livewell@yahoo.ca

Thanks for everything.  It's been a slice.  Take care everyone

xoxo

Why she Had to Change Hotels Last Week

I think you'll find this funny

Last week, I checked into the Four Seasons in Palm Beach and was a bit lonely. I thought, "I'll call one of those men you see advertised in phone books for escorts and sensual massages."

I looked through the phone book, found a full page ad for a guy calling himself Tender Tony -a very handsome man with assorted physical skills flexing in the photo.  He had all the right muscles in all the right places, thick wavy hair, long powerful legs, dazzling smile, six pack abs and I felt quite certain I could bounce a quarter off his well oiled butt.... you get the picture. I figured, what the heck, I'll give him a call.

"Hello, ma'am, how may I help you?" . . . Oh my, he sounded sooo sexy! Afraid I would lose my nerve if I hesitated I rushed right in, "Hi, I hear you give a great massage, I'd like you to come to my room and give me one.  No, wait, I should be straight with you. I'm in town all alone and what I really want is sex.  I want it hard, I want it hot, and I want it now. Bring implements, toys, rubber, leather, whips, everything you've got in your bag of tricks.  We'll go hot and heavy all night -tie me up, cover me in chocolate syrup and whipped cream, anything and everything baby.  Now how does that sound?"

He says, "Oh my God... that sounds absolutely fantastic, but you need to press 9 for an outside line."

Time For a Poll Dance - Yuwie Time

UPDATE:  3 09 09

I received a comment from a friend who said her option wasn't available on the poll.  So, I'd like to add that if you find none of the options fits you, by all means leave a comment describing what brings you to Yuwie.

Thanks

I have noticed quite a few Yuwie pages that look as though they've been around for quite some time, yet they are devoid of blogs.  So, I'm curious to know what most peoples' Yuwie time consists of.

Give 'em Something to Talk About

Update 8 09 09:

I'm feeling pretty stoked right now.  A discussion I started at mylot has generated 13 responses!  That's the most I've gotten so far.  It's called Has myLot nearly cost you your house?  Don't worry it's not tragic.  It's actually pretty funny now that it's over.

I'm going to start this post by saying: There are some really nice features here at Yuwie number one among them being that it is relatively user friendly; I find the site navigation really easy and because of that, most of my blogging efforts have landed here.

One of the disappointments for me though has been with the club feature.  I don't know about anyone else, but I was really hoping that by joining the clubs I'd be engaged in some lively discussions on a variety of topics.  This was true in the comments and suggestions club for a while.  At the beginning, people were expressing their feelings about different things that they either liked or didn't like, and although it was mostly to do with Yuwie, and a lot of the time I was at odds with Y Guy, but at least I got to make my feelings known. There was a lot of interest in that group some good, some bad, that kept me coming back to read the comments and express my own feelings.  But even that seemed to dwindle down to nearly nothing and a lot of the other groups seemed to be directed at adding friends or a specific network marketing programme.

Even when I searched out a group that was themed around a topic I was interested in, I was disappointed to find that the last time anyone posted was in 2007!  In the groups that do have a lot of action, the posts all seem to be "add me please" or "come look at my money making gig".  And these posts keep coming up no matter what the group is supposed to be about.

So, lately I've been spending a lot of time hanging around myLot.  I have found that there is a plethora of topics to participate in, and I don't have any difficulty in finding a post that stirs up my emotion to the point where I just have to add my two cents. The community may not be that large by web 2.0 standards, (Just under 200'000 members) but it is growing at a steady pace, and the people are talking and that's what matters to me.   Everything from, "What is your favourite colour?" to, "What's best in affiliate marketing".

No, myLot isn't exactly "pretty", you can't customize your page beyond filling in some information, You can create a list of interests and see who's discussing what within those interests, and / or start a discussion yourself. You can keep track of the discussions you've started and the ones you've responded to.  You receive a digest to your email that shows you what the latest discussions are.

Now I know some are wondering does it pay?  The answer to that is yes it does. I started using myLot about a week or so ago and and my activity has consisted of starting one new discussion and responding to about 9 others.  Some of my responses were within the same discussion to specific comments others have made in that discussion.  From that I've made 0.21$ No, it's not a lot, but it took a heck of a lot more effort to make 0.21$ here In two years here I have made less than 10.00$ and I worked bloody hard to attract new members.  For that I don't think I'll ever get paid because I haven't reached the payout level, but Yuwie certainly got the benefit of my labour.  To make more money with myLot you might find these tips helpful on How to Make More Money in MyLot

All in all, it's the discussions that have got me hooked on myLot, and that's what I think the focus should be on.  Making any money is just sauce.  If you focus on the meat, the sauce will come.  I know the real smart ones will figure out how to promote their money makers, but I advise you to engage in real conversation.  Don't just jump in there with, "10 reasons why you should join xyz programme."  Even if someone is asking specifically what's best to join, don't just say, "here's my link this is the best and easiest way to make money."  Give valuable information.  There's a lot to be said for subtlety.  I've actually seen people give quality answers to questions like this without mentioning their programme at all which then generated requests for the affiliate link.  There's even quite a bit of discussion about Yuwie on myLot.  So who knows, those of you who are really working Yuwie hard might even be able to find some new referrals over there.

So, if engaging conversation is something you've been looking for on the web, I encourage you to take a look at myLot and give 'em something to talk about.

UPDATE

I stand corrected on not being able to customize your profile page at myLot.  It seems there is minimal customization in terms of colour and module arrangement.  From what I have seen you can customize the background colour and the left panel colour, and you can reorder, add or delete modules in the right panel.

I'm not sure if not being able to colourize the right panel is deliberate or a glitch, but I have been able to add my stamp, if only a little bit which makes my profile look a little better.   And for those of you who love to bannerize your shout boxes here on Yuwie, you'll be happy to know that you can add an html module and banner it up to your heart's content!

UPDATE 2 - 28 / 08 / 09

Well, I've pretty much finished my profile on myLot.  I don't know about adding custom css, but I'm happy with what I've done, and it doesn't look too shabby if I do say so myself.

If you've got questions, they've got answers.  The hot topic today was potty training of all things.  LOL

Here's Something I hadn't Thought Of

I have used a couple of link shortening services not only for the obvious reason of shortening my links, but also as a way to sort and store my links in one place as opposed to using a spreadsheet.  But here's something that I hadn't thought of before:

As someone who knows relatively little about SEO and the internal workings of an actual link, It never occurred to me that there could be a downside to link shortening.  I came across an interesting article that has really got me thinking whether or not I should continue with this practice. Read the article for yourself and let me know. As I said, I don't have any real knowledge of my own on this subject, so I rely on the expertise of others. Anyone reading this who has knowledge in this area, please throw your opinions my way; I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

Minimum Wage Hikes Are Hurting Mom & Pop

This was the title of a recent commentary on my local radio station.  Following is a copy of the commentary followed by my letter to the editor in response.  I'd be interested to know what people feel about this issue.

Commentary

I’m Bill Kingston with today’s commentary. A major employer in Cornwall has just announced they are upping their entry-level wages to $12 an hour. Those making under that are getting a bump in pay to make sure they are at $12 an hour. I can understand where the company is coming from and how it has to stay competitive in the marketplace. What I really feel for is the Mom & Pop stores who are scrimping and saving just to stay ahead of the big box stores and trying to make a living. How are they supposed to compete when the provincial government keeps raising the minimum wage? I know personally how hard it is for these businesses. My first job was in a corner milk store selling everything from lottery tickets and magazines to bubble gum. There was no fancy payroll department that took care of paying us. The owner of the shop would sit down with a calculator and a notebook and figure out our paycheques and give it to us as a cash-filled envelope. Those were the days. Everything was a careful balancing act and that’s when minimum wage was $6.85. Now it’s $9.50 and about to go to $10.25 in March. I’m all for progress but I think you will see more little guys squeezed out of the marketplace because they can’t compete without the manpower and it’s becoming too expensive to man their shops. It’s a sad state for free enterprise.

This commentary was originally posted on August 5, 2009

My Response

I just have to comment on Bill Kingston's remarks about minimum wage.  I think it's high time there was more on offer in terms of pay for hard working people.  It's the big box stores of this world that keep people down by moving into desperate communities to rape the population with their ridiculous shifts, low pay and even less appreciation.

If people had more to spend then undoubtedly, the Mom & Pop stores, who typically pay a bit more than minimum wage anyway would benefit.  It's the big guys who rake it in by the billions, and who by the way take business from the locally owned stores, that are the cheapskates. If people had more money in their pockets, the smaller stores would see more shoppers and would therefore have it to pay employees. We wouldn't be stuck giving our money back to the ones that keep it from us in the first place.

And it really irks me how if you think your time and hard work is worth more than minimum wage, you're the one with the attitude.  I have heard employers who pay a few cents above minimum wage say, "We don't have to pay you that much you know."  These employers need to start recognizing the value given to them by hard working people.

What is an employer really saying to you when he pays you minimum wage?  "If I could pay you less, I would."
